How to take an online test in Oncourse

  1. To log into an Oncourse class, do the following:

    • Using a Web browser, go to: http://oncourse.iu.edu
    • Click the Login button
    • Enter your username and password, then click "Log In."
    • On your profile page, select the link for your course.

  2. From the Tools menu, chooseOncourse Tests and Surveys (Student).

  3. On the Test Tool page, you'll see links for taking a new test and for reviewing work on a previous test. Click the appropriate link or button.

  4. Either the "Take a Test or Survey" page or the "Review a Test or Survey" page appears, displaying a list of the tests for your course. Select the appropriate test.

  5. If your instructor has set a time limit for your test, you willsee a dialog box telling you how much time you have available tocomplete your answers. Click OK to begin.

  6. Reply to each question according to the type of question:

    • For multiple-choice and true/false questions, click the radio buttonnext to the correct option.
    • For fill-in-the-blank, short answer, and essay questions, entertext into the box.
    • For matching questions, choose the correct option from theappropriate pull-down menus.

  7. Once you have finished answering the questions, clickSend.

Note: Multiple-choice, true/false,fill-in-the-blank, and matching questions are gradedautomatically. Short answers and essays are sent to the instructor tobe graded later. Your instructor may have set up the test to show you a page of results as soon as you finish your test. This "instant results" page only displays your score for automatically graded questions. If your test includes short answers or essays, your"instant results" score will not be complete.
